BetterAid calls on the UN Development Cooperation Forum to deliver where the G20 failed

30 June 2010

The bi-annual meeting of the UN Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) started on July 29 in New York. In addition to discussions on aid effectiveness, the meeting will also focus on wider debates  of policy coherence for development.  Civil society organisations including Eurodad have been actively involved inthe two preparatory symposiums in Vienna and Helsinki.

The Better Aid open platform which represents more than 700 CSOs released a statement to the DCF that lays out how themember states convening at the UN-DCF can take action on the following points:

1. Promote and implement greater policy coherence in development cooperation

2. Lead wide-reaching reforms of international financial and development cooperation systems

3. Allocate resources among competing needs in a context of multiple crises

4. Address effectively the various forms of cooperation including South-South and triangular Co-operation

5. Enact accountable and transparent development cooperation

6. Respect true mutual accountability

7. Ensure systematic and substantive civil society participation in the UN-DCF process.

The statement is available in three languages (English, French and Spanish) on BetterAid’s website.
