In the wake of the global financial and economic crisis, the President of the UN General Assembly set up a Commission of Experts on Reforms of the International Monetary and Financial System, whose mandate includes putting forward "credible and feasible proposals for reforming the international monetary and financial system in the best interest of the international community." The Commission is expected to present its final report in early April 2009.
The Office of the President of the General Assembly has asked NGLS to consult with civil society groups across the globe and to compile their views into a single report that will be presented to the Commission as an official input to their deliberations. NGLS has set up an on-line consultation open to all civil society organizations to support this effort. Due to the short time frame of the Commission's work, the consultation is running from 26 January to 13 February 2009 and is intended to contribute to preparations of the next meeting of the Commission in March in Geneva.
